What is everyone's though on using new tires vs takeoff tires? Do you try to find takeoffs first and if you can't find any buy new? Or do you just buy new and avoid dealing with someone else's used rubber (keep it clean here...)?
Just wondering what other people's thoughts are.

I decided to go new this year to avoid the hassle of tire changes.

The only way I could see the take off thing working is if you knew a local fast guy that could consistently feed you quality take offs at a good price. I would think the deal would become a loser pretty quickly if you had to pay for shipping and have the chance of getting crappy tires from someone you don't know. I buy mine new and I'm always on the look out for a deal on Ebay or else where. I seem to be able to tear up new tires pretty quickly, so I have to imagine that I'd probably never get more than 1 day out of a take off rear...

I think Matt pretty much nailed it. I'd rather do my own damage.

I ran UK NTEC take off's in every race last year and saved a good bit of money. Those fronts last forever, and the rears too as long as you don't get cold tear are pretty resilient. But like Matt says, I found a guy, actually two guys on WERA who were selling them after only a few laps.
I bought a bunch from the same guys in anticipation of this season but now since I'm not running a full season am trying to sell them and I can't give them away. The new WERA classifieds sucks.
If you want any NTEC's let me know. I've got three fronts and one rear with less than 50 laps for $50 each. The rear would only last you 1 trackday but the fronts are in great shape.
