you could see if you can find a choke lever from something else that is made to go on the bar (dirt bike?) or a choke lever that you can mount somewhere else on the bike. just need to make sure your cable will work with it. or you can just get another pod and keep it simple.
how accessible is the actual choke on the bike? Can you get to it easily? might be able to just fab something up. I don't remember what mine was like on my old zzr (it was carb'd though) but you could trim the cable and put a t-handle or a ring or something on it and attach it to the frame, especially if you don't use it on every start.
on the clip-on, just get a set of woodcrafts or something. it will be cheaper in the long run and certainly easier to repair in case of another off. Call you know who and beg for a discount
