Guys,

Looking at the damage from my lowside, I am thinking about getting a clip on for the left handle bar. If I remove the stock street controls (lights, horn, etc), it also takes the choke lever (which is broke anyway) with it. How do I replace the choke lever on a clip on. The bike is FI, but they still have a choke to help with cold starts and I use it from time to time.

Nate

Looking at this one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-03- ... ccessories

you could see if you can find a choke lever from something else that is made to go on the bar (dirt bike?) or a choke lever that you can mount somewhere else on the bike. just need to make sure your cable will work with it. or you can just get another pod and keep it simple.
how accessible is the actual choke on the bike? Can you get to it easily? might be able to just fab something up. I don't remember what mine was like on my old zzr (it was carb'd though) but you could trim the cable and put a t-handle or a ring or something on it and attach it to the frame, especially if you don't use it on every start.

on the clip-on, just get a set of woodcrafts or something. it will be cheaper in the long run and certainly easier to repair in case of another off. Call you know who and beg for a discount :-)

+1 on the woodcrafts. replacing the $13 bar if it gets damaged is very easy.

As for the choke, i would buy a cable and lever from a bicycle shop and mount it on the frame/fairing stay. A lever with detents or stays where it is put would be best. shifter lever etc.

Another question about the clip ons...

What about the start switch? Where do I put that and how do I rig it up?

you mean the right side pod? it goes on eactly the same way as it would on a stock clip on. if it has a locator tab on the inside you have to trim it off.

Finally got most of my parts today from STG (their shipping was fast, just took a while for me to get the $$ to order).

What is the best way to position the clip ons? I installed them and the bars and started putting everything back on. Just not sure how to figure out where they should be positioned.

I guess just sitting on the bike and moving them until they feel right is how to go about it?

Hopefully I can work on the bike some more this week, pretty sure if should be ready for Summit Main in Sept.
