Don't worry about your exhaust - just don't wreck
If you have an unforutnate situation odds are the can will take a hit regardless of material. If you are really worried about it just pick up a stock can for next to nothing and put it on for track days. You can always gut it if you are looking for noise.
So far as gear:
Most track orgs will require 1 or 2 piece leathers. Some allow textile suits in begginer groups but I'd stick to leather. If you get 2 piece leathers they have to be the type that zip together all the way around. A*s is a good place to start. There are some other quality brands as well. None cheap. $500 is right around the starting point for suits.
You will need gauntlet type gloves. I'm a huge fan of Help Phantoms.
You will need boots. Sidi, A*s, etc. are good.
Obviously a DOT approved full face helmet.
A back protector is a good idea as well.
If you do not have swingarm spools on your bike get a set and a rear stand. And like Nate said tires. If you are running regular Corsas now, consider switching over to the Corsa III.
Where are you located and what organization are you looking to ride with?
