I'm going to be tearing into the clutch soon enough but wanted to see if anyone might have some insight before I do. This is on my 2005 ZX6R (636) track bike with 26,351 miles on it. Most of those were street before it became my track whore this past February. Last couple track weekends I noticed that my clutch was chattering like a Ducati at idle, letting the bike warm up before going out. Bike rides fine, no clutch slipping or grabbing or anything unusual. The chatter would greatly lessen after a session and everything was nice and hot but still be slightly noticeable. Pulling the clutch lever in and the chatter would stop. Taking up the slack in the clutch lever but not pulling it in and you could feel the chatter thru the clutch lever. I'm thinking the clutch is maybe dying or I might need to tighten the springs or something, won't really know until I take the cover off. Any thoughts? Anyone ever see something similar? ![]() |

Could be the clutch basket is worn enough that the plates have some extra play and are banging around between the basket "fingers"... |

clutches are not too bad to replace (or too expensive) yourself. just one of those things where you really want to make sure you follow the directions.... good time to upgrade to a slipper ![]() |

I usually live by the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" moto as well. I would think that if your R1 clutch is still good after 38K that there's a good chance my RR clutch still has some life left. I'd think the R1 is harder on the clutch than my 600, although, I'm sure I have to shift more. I don't have a slipper and I don't rev-match really at all on down-shifts. I just bang down-shifts and modulate the clutch a bit (with the throttle closed) to keep the rear wheel from hopping/sliding. I'd just hate to have my clutch start to slip during a trackday... |

I'm going to ask a question: What oil are you using?? The reason I ask is I own a Kawi and have owned a few (ask the guys on the board here... ![]() If you want, I can ask my buddy Will who is the mechanic for the California Superbike School, all the school bikes are 05-06 ZX-6's.....he would know for sure. |
