Was looking at my R1's manual. Says that you're supposed to check the sync on the throttle bodies every 4k miles and completely rebuild masters and calipers every 2 years?!  Can't imagine taking it in for a throttle sync check 2 or more times a year and having some miminum wage dealer squid rebuilding my calipers & masters every other year.... I follow it about 75% of the time, you have to make some common sense out of some of it and base it by your usage of the bike. I waiting until 34K to do my vavles...all were within tolerance and they were supposed to be done at 25,500. I did the throttle bodies for the first time at that same interval. The only difference I noticed was it sounded deeper didn't notice anything else.

Motion pro has this tool for throttle bodies http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0411/I was going to buy it but since I was already having my valves adjusted I went ahead and had them do it for the extra $40. I do my spark plugs every 8K like the manual says but I have to tell you, really I think you could get away with regaping them and reinstalling them. They don't even look used at 8K and for $50-60 for the set of 4 it just seems like overkill but I do it anyway.

i've always managed to score cr9ek's for like $5.75 delivered (eBay). my bike was running REALLY rich after the idiots at Kissells "tuned" it. i'm sort of interested in seeing what my plugs will look like when i pull them out.
i figure if i'm going to take the time to get to the plugs i might as well put new ones in.

yeah no doubt, i'm not sure about the newer R1's but it takes a good hour to change plugs on mine after removing the damper, lifting the tank and removing the airbox.
I normally get my plugs from Ebay too but never scored them that cheap...nice steal

I'm more picky than the maintence schedule dictates. I change oil every 2000 or so miles, did the valves at 6k instead of 12k, plugs every year ( they always look pretty clean) and so on. The only thing I haven't done yet is sync the carbs only because I'm too lazy to build a sync tool.
