Accroding to MCN at least.. Supersport fanatics eagerly awaiting an all-new Yamaha R6 for 2011 are being told they’ll have to wait another year.
Yamaha is known to be working on a replacement for the current machine, which has been in production since 2006 with only minor changes since, but buyers asking dealers about a new bike are being told the bike won’t be on sale until 2012.
The current machine, which received a mild update for 2010, will remain on sale.
MCN understands from supply-chain insiders that the bike in development is an all-new machine borrowing heavily from the M1 MotoGP bike – a new chassis, a new engine and bodywork closely aping the shape of Rossi and Lorenzo’s machines.
A cross-plane crank won’t feature however – the benefit of more useable power isn’t enough on a 600 to justify the weight penalty that comes with R1’s cross-plane crank and associated balance shaft.
A 600 engine is deemed useable enough with a conventional 180° crank.http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/ ... 6-delayed/

I'm still trying to figure out what the bike companies are doing next year. I guess we know Kawi's coming out with a new ZX10 and Yamaha is not updating the R6. What about the GSXR's and CBR's? I'm starting to feel the itch for a new bike...

I think it's a pretty safe bet that there will be a GSXR since there was not a '10, at least in the US. I sort of doubt there will be a new R1. No guess on the CBR. ZX10 seems to be the only know quantity so far. We shall see soon enough since dealer meetings should be starting in the next few weeks.

Well Yamaha has officially done nothing for new sport bikes for 2011 :-( http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/produ ... rview.aspxWas sort of hoping for a new R1 - I just can't warm up to the current one. Only new "sporty" bike is the FZ8

I like the look of the new FZ8. If I was to buy a street bike something like the FZ1 or FZ8 would be what I would be looking for. Still has some power and sportiness but also more comfortable. I'd probably get the FZ1, but the FZ8 seems pretty cool.

I wouldn't mind trying a R6 at some point.Maybe I'll start saving my money for 2012.By that time my gixxer will have some track miles on it.

Yeah, they would have been insane not to bring an 11 GSXR into the US. Will be interesting to see what all they have changed.
